Mittaghorn Klettersteig

On the final day of my brother's visit to Switzerland, we make use of the "Burgerpass" in Saas-Fee, which gives us free use of the cable cars after staying overnight in the village. We take the "Alpin Express" to the first station at Morenia, where the cable car attendant double-checks that we really intend to get off here, instead of continuing up to Felskinn.

A traverse over boulder fields takes us to the Swiss flag at P. 2687 on the Mittaghorn north-west ridge. The via ferrata now follows the ridge all the way too the summit. At first, the route is really easy, but with enjoyable scrambling. Higher up, there are a number of steeper passages with more iron as well (K3). After just two hours, we reach the Mittaghorn summit, which is a fabulous viewpoint, standing in the middle of the Saastal.

The descent to Plattjen follows the white-blue-white marked normal route (T3+).
